Will there be any exposed tile edges?
If the edge of the existing tiles will remain visible, we recommend installing a tiler’s angle. Choose a profile that covers the thickness of both the existing tile and the pressed metal panel for a neat, professional finish.
Will the panels adhere properly?
Before installing, test that the pressed metal panels will adhere properly by applying a small amount of construction silicone to the existing tile surface.
If the construction silicone doesn’t adhere properly, lightly scuff the surface of the existing tiles before testing again.
How to install pressed metal panels over existing tiles
Once you’ve confirmed the existing tiles are suitable, installation is straightforward.
- Clean the existing tiles thoroughly to remove grease, oils, dust and any other contaminants.
- If the pressed metal panels are to extend beyond the existing tiled area, pack out the surrounding wall so the finished surface remains flush.
- Test that the pressed metal panels will adhere properly by applying a small amount of construction silicone to the existing tile surface. If the construction silicone doesn't adhere properly, lightly scuff the surface of the existing tiles before testing again.
- Apply the construction silicone to the back of the pressed metal panels and press them firmly into position.
- If there are exposed tile edges, install a tiler's angle that covers the thickness of both the existing tiles and the pressed metal panel.
- Once the construction silicone has cured, seal any exposed joins, internal corners and edges with a mould-resistant kitchen and bathroom silicone where required.

Not usually. Our premium aluminium pressed metal panels are manufactured from 0.55 mm aluminium, with a finished thickness ranging from approximately 3 mm to 11 mm, depending on the pattern you choose. This measurement includes the construction silicone used during installation.
Can I install pressed metal panels myself?
Many homeowners successfully install pressed metal panels themselves. If you’re comfortable measuring accurately and using basic tools, it’s a very achievable DIY project.
